Day 1 – The Longest Day

Fin and his first Timbits.

The longest day was in fact 23 hours awake for the boys and about 26 hours for us.

We met Granny & Granpops at Minley, parked the car and headed off together to Gatwick arriving in time to grab a breakfast before we boarded the plane.  We were privileged to share the flight with the Giles family who were immigrating to Canada – so pleased for them that they’re following their dream and we wish them all the success and happiness in their new life in Canada.

It was a good flight, better than expected actually.  The presents we brought to keep Fin and Jack occupied worked well as did the bassinet seat for Fin. He managed to grab a couple of hours sleep with his little feet sticking out the end as he was a bit too long. I don’t think we were the family with the crying baby that everyone wishes they’re not sat next to.

Thanks to Jacks Air Transat Kids Club membership we were treated to check in at the club class counter, priority boarding and priority luggage retrieval.  This meant that by the time we made it through to the baggage hall our bags were whirring round the carousel awaiting collection while everyone else’s were nowhere to be seen.  It certainly pays to do your research.

Bags retrieved we hit Tim Hortons and Fin had his first Timbit.  It was a very momentous occasion and I think I may have even teared up a little.  Rest assured, we didn’t give him the entire box of twenty.  Jack spotted the Tim Hortons sign and hoofed it down the airport screaming ‘Timmies’, Granpops wasn’t very far behind him. Three very happy boys got on the shuttle to take us the RV depot.

RVs collected (one each for everyone’s sanity) we headed North to Drumheller where the worlds largest dinosaur was waiting.
