The first weekend in October was wet, windy and a whole lot of fun! Exercise Trident Warriors started at 08:00 on Saturday morning and culminated in an early night for all on the Sunday!

Some very dedicated soldiers from 42 (Jon’s Squadron) put together a great wives exercise, there was live pistol and SA80 rifle firing, camouflage and concealment and how to use your ration pack lessons and that was just before lunch on the Saturday. Then I got to walk blindfolded as part of a command task and the best bit of all, drive a digger (oops, that should read light-wheeled tractor). Survival training followed with skills in fire and shelter making and how to make full use of any animals caught. After a ration pack tea it was back to our tents for a large fire and few glasses of the good stuff.
Sunday gave me my first lie-in in a while and apart from a drip of water on the forehead I had a warm and restful nights kip – largely in part to the foam earplugs I had squirrelled away at the firing range. After a cooked breakfast I got to crawl through marshy grass, mud and general undergrowth and have a go at paint-balling – both very very awesome, the bruises (lasting for two weeks after) were so worth it. It was then back to camp for an assault course run by the PTI’s (the uber-fit Physical Training Instructors) and a final bit of drill.
The Combat Cuties, the fantastic group of girls that I was with, were a brilliant team with a great spirit that kept us fighting all the way through the weekend, which was an absolutely roaring success.
